Frequently Asked Questions

Traditional Champagne Balloon Flight Information
Slung from a giant pillow of air in a wicker perch, you are spirited away on an elusive adventure that others can only imagine.

Q: Is there a feeling of motion in the balloon?

A: No, because the balloon moves at the same speed as the wind, there is no feeling of movement. It feels as though the hot air balloon is standing still while thelandscape moves smoothly beneath you. "Tranquil" and "calm" are the words used most often by our passengers to describe hot air ballooning.

Q: I'm afraid of heights.  Will riding in a hot air balloon bother me?

A: Probably not. There is no physical connection between the earth and the balloon as there is between a tall building and the ground. This complete freedom seems to alleviate the apprehension of most passengers.

Q: What times do you fly?

A: Heaven Bound Ascensions will take you on a magical excursion at the most beautiful and safe flying times of the day, which occur just after sunrise and about two hours before sunset. Dawn and dusk provide the most romantic setting imaginable and exceptional dramatic lighting for all photographs.

Q: Where do we land?

A: Balloons can't be steered, so we follow the wind. The sky is layered with air currents, so the pilot heats or cools the air inside the balloon with the burner to rise or lower into different wind directions. In the area we fly, there are many open fields in which we are welcome to land. When the pilot finds the appropriate landing site, he will begin a descent where our experienced retrieval crew will meet us.

Q: What does it feel like?
A: Once aloft, you will notice no turbulence or wind movement as you become one with the air currents. The feeling is one of peace as you drift over treetops and float over the countryside in a gentle, panoramic harmony with nature.

Q: How long and high do we fly?
A: We fly between 45 and 60 minutes, depending on when we locate a safe landing site. Balloons normally fly between 200 and 3,000 feet, all within federal aviation regulations.

Q: After the flight?
A: After packing up the balloon, the traditional champagne toast inspired by the Montgolfier brothers, the first hot air balloonists, will top off your magical journey. A commemorative lapel pin of the balloon will be ceremoniously awarded to you before we return you to your car.
